The Department has been established and operates in accordance with Law 4957/2022 “New Horizons in Higher Education Institutions: Enhancing the quality, functionality and connection of HEIs with society and other provisions” (A’ 141) and in particular article 46 thereof, the Neurophysiology Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory.
The purpose of the laboratory is:
- To conduct basic and clinical research in the scientific fields of Physiology, Neurophysiology and Cognitive Neuroscience in order to develop new knowledge about brain function and acquire know-how both at theoretical and experimental – applied level.
- The training of students (undergraduate, postgraduate) as well as PhD candidates in the operation of the Electroencephalograph, the organization and operation of the Neurophysiological Laboratory as well as the neural mechanisms that regulate cognitive functions and behavior.
- The collaboration with academic institutions and research bodies in Greece and abroad, provided that their scientific objectives coincide, converge or are related to those of the university laboratory.
- To secure resources and funding sources for the enhancement of basic and applied research in Neurophysiology and Cognitive Neuroscience.
- The provision of clinical neurophysiology services to individuals (for example Electroencephalogram, Electromyography, Evoked Potentials, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) in accordance with the applicable legislation.
